Hapuna beach is a goregous white sand beach on the west side of the island of Hawaii. The State park is located in North Kohala off of Hwy 19 about 30 miles north of Kona. The beach is one half a mile long and about 200 feet wide. It attracts sun lovers, surfers, and swimmers.

Parking is above the beach. It is usually crammed with cars. The best plan is to unload people and beach stuff at the loading zone and then go seek parking. There is usually spaces far up above the beach, too far to carry coolers.
Facilities include restrooms, showers, covered picnic tables, food vendors and rentals.

Bushes line the beach as a wind break. The beach has clear water and wonderful scenary. Snorkeling is best on the south end of the beach where there is a coral reef. There is no cover on the beach, so cover yourself with sun screen frequently.

After going down the path, this is the picture to the left.

And looking to the right, the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel is at the end of Hapuna Beach.

The surf can be huge in the summer and totally flat in the winter. Warning signs are posted in case of dangerous surf. Lifeguards are sometimes on duty.

Hapuna Beach state park includes A-frame tent cabin rentals that sleep 4. You can find out about the rentals through the State Parks, but before you rent one, check online blogs and articles, they aren't very complementary about the A-frames.
Another thing about Hapuna beach. During the winter, the waves can be brutal. Hapuna is known for surfing and boogie-boarding injuries due to powerful waves crashing on the beach shelf. Be careful and have a wonderful time at the beach.
